Reuben and Arthur were the sons of George Smith and Mary Ann nee Summerfield. Their cousins, Mary Ann's nephews, were Samuel and Joseph Summerfield. They were also related to George Plumridge through their mother's cousin, Minnie Summerfield who was George's mother. And they were also distantly related to Joseph Smith through the marriage of their cousin Roland Smith to Mary Weedon. They lived in Sedgmoor but the exact location remains unclear.

Smith descendants still live in the village today.
