Rose Bank Cottages today

These cottages upon the bank
Were suitable for any rank
And though considered rather small
Gave one a status after all.
For you would want for nothing more
Once you'd a porch above your door
Plus garden plot at side or rear,
All bonuses that you'd hold dear.

Rose Bank Cottages were four roomed homes suitable for smaller families. The occupations of those living here in the early 1900s would suggest that they were pensioners, paper finishers and bricklayers. The smaller your family the more likely you were to have savings and these well-built cottages, with a porch and garden, would have been seen as a step up by many.
