Up here, before the houses came,
Was once a path, a tree lined lane,
And you could smell, before you saw,
The ponies at the stable door.
A riding school for any age,
From tiny tot to dressage stage,
And in the field beside the wood
Gymkhanas too, yes they were good,
You'd go back home, rosette in hand,
The master of your horse so grand.

The riding stables was a popular haunt for children growing up in the 1950s and 60s. It was lost to housing soon after although some of the fields and woodland used for riding are now part of Wycombe Heights Golf Club.
