This villa's sadly now too old
To have its history here retold,
But 'Providence' perhaps it was
For those who could afford its cost.
A splendid home for working man
To climb the ladder if he can.

Providence Villas still stands in London Road today but how different the road outside looks now! Joseph Vernon and his family lived here in 1911 with their Loudwater born mother-in-law, Adelaide Saunders. Another Vernon family, possibly Joseph's son, lived nearby in St Ann's Cottages.
