Loudwater Mill no longer stands,
This plot is now in other hands,
But here, like many other mills,
It beckoned workers from the hills
And many years its chimney stood
To point folk to this neighbourhood.

Loudwater Mill was situated here for many years. It was one of the mills which saw action during the 1830 paper riots. Its chimney would have been an excellent marker for travellers along the London Road and for those travelling southwards along the Wye valley to the paper mills beyond.
