Maud's
husband Ernest Bird had served with the Indian Railways. He died young, out in India,
and she had nowhere to live when she returned to Wycombe with her young family. Maud and Ernest had four children.
Maud's
brother, Fred Skull, owned Stuart Lodge and had used part of it for his
antiques business.
