My name is Harold Horne and I was the son of Wycombe born Alfred Horne and Annie nee Tilbury. My parents married in 1885 and I was born in 1890. My father was a French polisher. Sadly my mother died when she was only 39, in 1893. My father married again the following year, when I was still only a toddler, to my step-mother Naomi(nee Lovett). When I was five my little sister Florence Susannah was born. My parents set up home at 34 Bridge Street before my mother's untimely death. But by 1911 we had moved to 14 Victoria Street.
I became Private 2334 of the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry and, later, Private Harold Horne, 45582, of the 8th Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment. I was wounded in December 1916 but returned to the Front and then was wounded for a second time. I was killed in action on the 28th August 1918 aged 27 and I was buried at Bernafay Wood British Cemetery, Montauban, Somme, France.
