The Common in earlier times (picture from SWOP website) | As the cottages look today |
Simeon Sarney lived at Virginia Cottages. He was quite a local figure who is remembered for his good deeds around the village.
He took care of the memorial gardens and also rescued the old Victorian School's bell tower which was re-assembled outside Juniper Hill School.
He is remembered in the Community Hall with the Sarney Room, and at Juniper Hill School on the plaque on the bell tower. The name of a Sarney relative appears on the War Memorial.
