Who remembers the ‘Sweet Man’
Selling fudge beside the wood?
The nicest fudge you’d ever had,
It really tasted good.

The ‘Sweet Man’ came from Poland
But wherever did he go?
Who was this Polish ‘Sweet Man’?
Does anybody know?

The Sweet Man, believed to be a Polish refugee, sold fudge at the Fennels Way entrance to Fennels Wood in the 1960s. He must have had a regular time and spot as my father always knew when to find him there and we would walk along to get a bag of the most delicious fudge we'd ever tasted.
