As it looked shortly before it closed


The Magpie Pub, at top of lane,
Will, sadly, not be seen again
And yet it stood for many years,
And was a welcome face just here.

And folk who travelled to the west
Took shelter here and also rest,
And for the walker river bound
'Twas quite a 'signpost' it was found.

New houses take its place today,
Old treasures not allowed to stay,
But maybe they in turn will be
The welcome face we'll want to see.

The Magpie Pub was situated here for very many decades and was demolished for new housing in very recent times. It changed its colour several times.
