These cottages on brow of hill
With Hilltop for their name
Replace an older cottage here
Called Hilltop just the same.
This once was built as homes for two
But later knocked to one
And this is where May Jennings lived
Along with ageing mum.
The Jennings ran the village store
And all of them got wed
But May, who loved her horses,
Liked their company instead.
Her stables up at Juniper
Kept youngsters there employed
And many local folk recall
The riding they enjoyed.
The old cottage stood at the end of the Common until relatively recent times.
