The same area today


An uncle came from Wycombe
But he liked this village plot
And here he spent his later years
And died upon this spot.
Back then it was a bungalow
And, though so few remain,
You’ll see the style I speak of
For there's others much the same,
And way back in the Twenties,
When land was still quite cheap,
These little redbrick dwellings
Made an easy home to keep.

Swains Lane and Fennels Way still sport these 1920s dwellings although many of them have been extended and altered so no two are now exactly the same. Several have been demolished or so extended that you would barely recognise their early origins today.
