The church today




Chapels and churches there were but a few,
Of worship it’s said we had ‘no but a clue’
Some Heathens, in fact, had to walk the two miles
Over to Marlow by crossing the stiles,
Singing the hymns and enjoying the day,
The children abiding to give up their play,
Then back to the hardship of working the week
Until the next Sunday, forgiveness to seek.

The first church building circa 1930s. There was no Anglican church in the village until this was built. Because the village was made up of land from three separate parishes it depended on where you lived as to how far you would have to walk to reach the nearest C of E church. The Methodists erected their chapels earlier than Christ Church.
