William was born at Great Kimble near Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire in 1885 and on the 1901 Census he was living and working with his father at Pigeon House Farm in Little Marlow Bucks. He was the eldest son of Albert and Elizabeth Rogers. He had four younger brothers, Frank, Albert, Frederick and Owen. He married Charlotte Chitty in 1908.
On the 1911 Census William was living with his wife Lottie (sic) and two children, William aged 2 and Violet aged 1yr in Sheepridge Little Marlow with his widowed father Albert and his brother Owen. They were farm labourers. At the time of his death William and Charlotte had five children. William aged 7yrs, Violet aged 6yrs, Kathleen aged 4yrs, Owen aged 2yrs and Ernest aged 1yr.
William died on the Somme during the early stages of the German withdrawal to the Hindenberg Line. His three brothers, Albert, Frederick and Owen also died in WW1. They are all also remembered on the Little Marlow War Memorial.
