Arthur was born at Regents Park, no further information on date of birth presently. He was living with his wife at 740 London Road, Loudwater, when he enlisted in the Royal Berkshire Regiment at Marlow and was attached to the 1st Battalion. Private Mitchell was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 in Flanders, age unknown.
The Bucks Free Press first reported him missing on 1st February 1918 with a plea from his wife Mrs A. Mitchell for any information and on 15th February 1918 reported that he was presumed to have been killed on 3rd May 1917.
Arthur is remembered with honour at the Orchard Dump Cemetery in France and his name also appears on the Wycombe Marsh memorial and the Wycombe Hospital plaque.
