Aunt Beth she loved to garden,
She would spend her life out there
And once she’d tended one bed
There would always be a spare
In which to plant her seedlings
Her cuttings and her corms,
Her happiness in nature
Was revealed in many forms.
She would gather up the leaf mould
From underneath the trees
And collect her green waste bucket
(Long before we’d heard of these)
And create a worm-rich compost
To spread upon the soil
Such simple little pleasures
Were reward for all her toil.
Working on the allotments is still a popular pastime with Flackwell Heath villagers. The site was originally farmland.
There were also allotments on the plot of land which is now The Fairway at Northern Woods.
