Hughes the builders, known by all,
Has answered, here, the village call
From this, their goods yard, on the brow
For what must be some decades now.
Here they cut up plywood sheet,
Or score your glass so nice and neat,
All stored on shelving, row on row,
With plenty more stuck down below.
Nails and screws of every size
(Once sold by weight from scales inside)
Make this a treasure trove indeed
And answers well the village need.
The Hughes family came from London but, several generations on, are now a Flackwell Heath family and their builder's yard has been in the village for many years.
