Do you see what I see?

I look at you

And you look at me
,
Do you see now the girl

That you used to be?

You look at me

And I see in your face

That you know that your life

Is not at my pace.

When did you know

And when did I see

That the girl that was you

Is now living through me?

You still look the same

But surely I've changed?

From the daughter I was

To this carer who pains

That our roles be reversed,

Your needs met, not mine,

Past and future now merged

By the passage of time.

But still we both feel
Inextricably tied

By this bond that lives on

Between young and old lives.

I look at you

And you look at me,

Do you still see the girl
That you used to be?

Although you are there

But absent in mind,

Your presence still lives

By the blood ties that bind

A daughter and mother

Together whatever,

One to the other

Forever and ever.
